The old brick path at this East Hartford home had seen better days. Uneven, weedy, and doing nothing good for water management around the front of the house. That's exactly the kind of situation where a fresh hardscape install makes a real difference - not just for looks, but for function.

We started by pulling the old material and getting the ground prepped properly. That means excavating down, establishing the right base, and making sure the grading is set up to move water away from the home. Our mini excavator made quick work of it, and once we had a clean, compacted base with string lines set for grade, we were ready to start laying pavers.

The new walkway runs clean from the driveway straight to the front door. We used dark charcoal pavers laid in a tight grid pattern - simple, clean, and built to last. Every course gets checked for level as we go. That's not something you can shortcut if you want a walkway that holds up through New England winters.

The drainage piece is just as important as the surface itself. Water pooling near a foundation causes real problems over time. Getting the grade right during the base prep stage is how you solve that before it becomes a headache down the road. We're heading back to button up the final drainage work and finish the edges - leaving the homeowner with a walkway that's clean, safe, and actually doing its job.
